  • The Nuts and Bolts of Single Unit Implant Therapy

Over 25 years ago the dental profession concluded that single unit implant treatment could be an effective alternative to the 3-unit fixed partial denture. The evolution of single unit implant therapy has resulted in many changes over the years relative to surgical placement techniques, abutment morphology, crown fabrication and crown engagement to the abutment. Whether in the Anterior Aesthetic zone or in the posterior areas, the desire to achieve successful prosthetic outcomes has driven the surgical positioning of the implant fixture. This program will review the fundamentals of surgical implant placement, the realities of bone grafting, abutment morphology, occlusal concerns and achieving desirable and cleansable crown contours.

  • Learning Objectives:

    • - Evaluate the existing bone morphology and gingival framework

    • - Examine the reality of regenerating bone volume
    • - Assess gingival tissue, including papillae, before initiating treatment
    • - Understand abutment contours for bone stability and soft tissue health
