  • Caries Risk Assessment: Prevention is Better Than a Cure


    In this course, caries risk assessment will be reviewed, highlighting the importance of developing a personalized treatment plan. The principles of evaluating the tools of current emerging caried detection, assessment, and diagnostic methods as applied to caries and other dental hard tissue disorders will be presented. In addition, caries risk factors, risk indicators and protective factors will be discussed to address best treatment approach and ultimately educate patient. The whole dental team (dentist, dental assistant, hygienist) can take advantage of this review as caries continue to be the most common dental disease. Prevention is better than cure! 

  • After successfully completing this course, attendees will be able to:

    • - Develop a comprehensive treatment plan 
    • - Determine the caries risk of the patient 
    • - Compare the tools of current and emerging caries detection, assessment, and diagnosis 

    

  • Vasiliki Maseli, DDS, MS: is a Clinical Associate Professor, Course Director for Operative Dentistry and Group Practice Leader at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. She has presented at national and regional dental meetings and often gives CE lectures. She has received her DDS degree from the University of Athens School of Dentistry and her MS degree in Restorative Dentistry from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Dedicated to continuing education, she earned a Master's in Education from the Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development, while teaching full-time. She serves as the Director of Member Benefits for American Association of Women Dentists and the Chair Elect for Boston District Dental Society. Dr. Maseli is an active member of American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and currently serves as the secretary for the Comprehensive Care and General Dentistry Section. She is recipient of the 2021 MDS 10 under Ten award and the 2023 Incisal Edge 40 Under 40 award.
