    A Practical Guide: Basic TMJ Management in the Private Practice Setting

    In this course we will discuss a framework for thinking about common TMJ problems and how to manage them in a general restorative practice. Attendees will learn to recognize, treat and/or manage occlusal conditions that can cause or exacerbate the symptoms secondary to parafunction, and gain comfort in recognizing and avoiding occlusal conditions that can result in treatment failure or patient symptoms.  

    • - Recognize common occlusal discrepancies that may cause or exacerbate TMD. composite restorations
    • - Examine the complex system at play with TMJ involvement
    • - Implement treatment strategies to treat common occlusal conditions to address TMJ symptoms
    • - Identify intra-capsular vs extra-capsular issues
    • - Understand the interplay between occlusion and parafunction
    • - Develop a framework for evaluating common TMJ symptoms
  • Speaker Bios

    Speaker:

    Andrew Tonelli, DMD: is a 2014 graduate of Tufts Dental. He completed a GPR at New York Presbyterian, Weill-Cornell Medical Center in New York City where he developed an interest in Oro-facial pain and occlusion. Dr. Tonelli is currently in private practice in North Reading and Boston, MA and currently serves as the chair of the Boston District Dental Society.


    Moderator:

    Carl McManama, DDS: is a Professor in the Department of General Dentistry and course director for several courses at Boston University’s Goldman School of Dental Medicine where he has taught since 1976. In addition to his teaching, he has maintained a private practice in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the past forty-five years. Dr. McManama has presented over 100 CE courses on topics related to restorative and operative dentistry to all levels of dental audiences.

    Attendees will earn 2 CE per session.


    Please Note: Sessions 1 - 8 will be available on-demand until January 1, 2027.

Cancellation Policy
  • Refunds can be made online up to 10 days prior to the first live session. You will receive a full refund minus a $25 processing fee. There are no refunds less than 10 days out including cancellations due to illness, late arrivals or weather. Full refund will be given if your class is cancelled for any reason by MDS. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing. There is no refund for courses once the course begins. Registrants will be notified by e-mail if the course is cancelled. The e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address used to register.
